We may be small but our mission is exspansive. See who we are and why we formed You. Me. We.

You.  Me.  We.  is a disaster response law and policy center (DRLPC) that defends human rights in disaster struck communities. We conduct needs assessments, evaluate policy reforms, and promote government accountability at every stage of disaster readiness, response, and recovery.

Founded in 2010, You.  Me.  We.   is a new organization, though its founders, Tracy McGaugh, Cheryl Van Dyke, and Kathleen Bergin, have been engaged in disaster-based advocacy for the past five years, and have ten years of community assessment experience. They coordinated the distribution of emergency aid after the levees broke in New Orleans, and exposed human rights violations in sheltering facilities that housed evacuees. They continue to work alongside Gulf Coast communities to fight unjust evictions, exploitive working conditions, unwarranted school closings, and toxic waste disposal practices. They’ve defended the rights of independent journalists and advocated on behalf of displaced voters. They’ve conducted legal workshops in Europe and advocacy training in Africa to strengthen the rule of law, and are on the ground in Haiti to ensure that human rights are fully recognized and protected throughout the reconstruction process.
